| ‘Basanti Puja is the worship of Goddess Durga in the month of Chaitra in mid April. Basanti Durga Puja in Hindu scriptures mentions the worship of the Goddess Durga in Spring . Vasant or the Spring ushers the harvest crops and people worship and thank the Mother Goddess Durga for her generosity. It is believed that Goddess Durga was mainly worshipped during the spring. It was Lord Rama who invoked the Mother Goddess for her blessings during Ashwin or Autumn to fight the demon king Ravana. This untimely invocation is also known as Akal Bodhon. The autumnal celebrations is the more popular form of Durga Puja which is held between the months of September-October. |
The Vasant Durga Puja is the Vasant Navaratri held in North India.It is held during the last four days of Vasant Navaratri. Many rituals followed in Bengal during Durga Puja are followed during the Vasant Durga Puja in North India. The worship of the Girl child or the 'Kumari Puja' where a girl between the ages of 7 to 9 is worshipped as the Goddess Durga. Ghatsthapana is another ritual that is also held during Vasant Navaratri.
