Mango (Aam)

In Mango considered the king of all fruits was exhibited in its 66 varieties out of the 1400 in the "Mango Mahotsav" in Kolkata thus displaying the popularity of the fruit as well as globally promoting the fruit. Mango exports touched Rs 130 crore in the year 2006-2007 and according to authorities it is expected to go up by another 10% in the current season.

This tropical fruit belong to the genus Mangifera which consists of about 30 species of tropical fruiting trees in the flowering plant family Anacardiaceae. Known to be the native of Southern and Southeast Asia, it is extensively grown in India. Langra and Himsagar are considered among the most superior types of mangoes in India. Ratnagiri region.Green mango has cellulose, tartaric acid, citric acid and maleic acid. The ripe fruit contains Vitamin A, B C, a green element and chlorophyll. refer mangoes as the "food of the gods" while mango leaves are ritually used for floral decorations at Hindu marriages and religious ceremonies. Mango trees are large, reaching 35-40 m in height, with a crown radius of 10 m. The leaves are evergreen, alternate, simple, 15-35 cm long and 6-16 cm broad. They are orange-pink in colour when young and dark green when mature. The flowers are produced in terminal racemes 10-40 cm long. They have a mild sweet odor and after the flowers finish, the fruit takes from three to six months to ripen. The mango fruit is a drupe; when mature, it hangs from the tree on long stems.
