"Dreamgirls" is energetic with the resonance of music. Based heavily on the career of Diana Ross and the Supremes, "Dreamgirls" is an archetypal offstage tale, a look at the news behind the news of how a modest girl group called the Dreamettes made its approach to the pinnacles of melodic success and enriching influence.

The film embarks on in Detroit, Michigan in 1962, as a recreational Black girl group known as The Dreamettes cross the threshold a restricted ability competition. Backstage, the three girls - who comprise full-figured direct singer and group founder Effie White (Jennifer Hudson) and her bandmates Deena Jones (Beyoncé Knowles) and Lorrell Robinson

Curtis starts his personal record label, Rainbow Records, and makes C.C. his head songwriter and producer. However, when Rainbow's first solo fails after a white pop group releases a cover version, Curtis turns to payola. By paying the correct people, Curtis manages to get Jimmy and the Dreamettes to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and into a headline performance at the Apollo Theater. Jimmy and the Dreamettes go on excursion; while on the road, Curtis begins an affair with Effie, and Jimmy - a married man - begins a disloyal rapport with Lorrell.Marty, troubled by Curtis' arrangement to make Jimmy's demonstration more pop-friendly, walks out on his customer. However, when Curtis finds that he cannot absolutely reconstruct Jimmy Early into a pop act, he shifts his concentration reverse to the Dreamettes. Feeling that Effie's tone of voice is too "churchy" and her body too huge to draw white audiences, Curtis employs the slimmer Deena as the escort vocalist of the Dreamettes.
