Islam

Generally, Islam makes no provision for animal sacrifice. However, it is considered to be obligatory upon sufficiently wealthy Muslims to sacrifice a large mammal during Eid ul-Adha (the Festival of Sacrifice), which falls during the period of Hajj (pilgrimage to Mecca). Typically, a sheep or a goat is sacrificed, although some sacrifice cattle or a camel instead. The meat is usually given as charity to the poor, in commemoration of the Sacrifice of Ismail, in which God tested the faith of Abraham (Ibrahim) by ordering him to sacrifice his son Ishmael (Ismail).

Christianity & Zoroastrianism

Christianity and Zoroastrianism also do not encourage animal sacrifice or bloodshed as a part of their ritual.

Vedic Religion & Hinduism

In the Vedic religion gods are invoked by the hymns or mantras along with sacrifice/offering of ghee (clarified butter), grains, spices, soma and wood into a fire. The fire represents Agni, the divine messenger or an intermediary god who converts these offerings to the other gods. Animal sacrifice was not common in those days. Fire symbolises aspiration.
Originally sacrifice in Hinduism refers to personal surrender through acts of abandoning. A true sacrifice should be in the form of renouncing all earthly pleasures or desires. Men then would sacrifice the six inherent vices or cardinal passions of man, namely sex-passion, anger, greed, infatuation, vanity and envy.
