Holi, the Festival of colours represents a cultural mileu that spreads all over the regions of India. Holi has legends and tales that unfolds the deep cultural and spiritual identity of India.
The Gods who are worshipped on Holi also vary from place to place. The mode of celebrations also vary but the spirit remains the same - love
and unity. In spite of the cultural diversity in various states, the event highlights secular India.


Lathmaar Holi

In Barsana, Holi is recognized as Lathmaar Holi.
Men of Nandgaon continue the practice of ritual of visiting Barsana to play Holi with the girls of Barsana. But instead of colours they are welcomed with sticks. Inspite of that they enjoy their trip and make the most use of their tour by splashing the girls with colours.

The next day, men of Barsana reciprocate by invading Nandgaon and wetting the womenfolk of Nandgaon in colours of kesudo, an orange-red dye made from the plant of palash. This day, women of Nadagaon hit the aggressors from Barsana. It is a fun filled day and a very enjoyable sight.


Dulandi Holi

Holi is Dulandi Holi in Haryana. Dulandi Holi calls for the leadership qualities of the 'bhabhi' - the brother’s wife . 'Devar', the husband’s younger brothers also actively participate in the Holi celebratios. The bhabhi on Holi receives a public permission to hit their devars and make them compensate for all the pranks they played on her for the whole year. In the afternoon, devars bring sweets for their beloved bhabhi. Besides, Holi Festival in Haryana also highlights the ritual of flouting the pot of buttermilk hung up high in the lane by creating a human pyramid.

 

Holi-Time for Renewal

Holi is the timefor renewal, shedding off the old and welcoming the new. Festival of colours, Holi ,the festival of colours is called by different names in different parts of India.
