People of Maharashtra usually identify this festival of colours by the name of Rangpanchami as the recreation with colours is reserved for the fifth day here. In Maharashtra Holi is known as Shimga or Shimgo. Fishermen and women especially celebrate this festival with great gusto.They rejoice and revel in the festivities by singing and dancing.

 

Basant Utsav
Holi is Basant Utsav in the state of West Bengal. The convention of Basant Utsav was introduced by poet and Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore at Shantiniketan or Vishwabharati, where the students of the University, attired in yellow, celebrate

 
 

Dol Utsav in a unique way. Spring sets the colours in the abode of Tagore and accompanied with songs, dances and hymns in the serene ambiance of Shantiniketan, Dol is celebrated. A chance to witness this elegant celebration of Holi in Bengal remains in ones memory forever. Basant Utsav or Dol is a significant festival of Bengal that has also drawn tourists worldwide .

 
   
 

Shimgo
Goans celebrate Holi as Shimgo in their Konkani language. People here too have fun with dazzling colours to welcome spring. Some also know Holi by the name of Rangpanchami.
The most exciting feature of Holi or Shimgo in Goa is the huge parade in Panjim. People from all casts and creeds partake in this celebration with huge fervor.

Kaman Pandigai
In Tamil Nadu, people respect Kaamadeva for his ultimate surrender on Holi. People are acquainted with Holi by three special names Kaman Pandigai, Kamavilas and Kama-Dahanam.

In Tamil Nadu songs are sung on Holi that feature Rati's tremendous distress. People proffer sandalwood to Kaamadeva to ease the pain of burning. Most believe that Kaamdeva was revived on the day of Holi and hence celebrate the festival in his name.
